Hello fellow expats and welcome to the October newsletter.

Thanks to all of you who came along to our events in September, whether it was our inaugural ramble followed by coffee and cake, or our night-out at the new micro-brewery on the island. It was lovely that the weather played ball in both cases and the fact that we were able to sit outside all evening at the end of September was a nice surprise.

I don’t think there’ll be much sitting ‘al fresco’ this month but I can offer you a get-together combined with a bit of fresh air this coming weekend, when I will be organising another walk. It proved so popular with everyone last time that I’ve decided to try and make it a monthly fixture (adapted to suit the time of the year) and so on Saturday, 9th October at 2.30pm we will be meeting at the same starting point as last time: the car park at the main cemetery in Aeschach but this time we will be heading to the Lindauer Dahlienschau (www.dahlienschau-lindau.de). For any of you who have never been to the dahlia show, it’s well worth a visit. Over 700 varieties of dahlias are on show, planted by one man, Stefan Seufert, and his team of volunteers, and it’s a veritable sea of colour. Not all of the walk will be on hard pathways, so make note if you’re planning to come with a push-chair. The whole walk, including a wander through the flowers, should take roughly 90 minutes to two hours (we go at a gentle pace!). Afterwards, if anyone fancies a bit of refreshment, we can head over to the café at Bäckerei Hamma, opposite the cemetery (don’t forget a mask and the 3G rules if you’re planning to go into the café). If you have a dog, you’re welcome to bring them, as well as family and friends of course. Plenty of parking is available and if anyone is coming by bus, use bus route number 4 and get off at Friedhof Aeschach or Rennerle. Please try to be punctual. We will wait for five minutes max before we start off!

Our Coffee Club is meeting a week later, on Sunday, 17th October, for Sunday Brunch at “Minibar FN”, Kleineberg Str. 9, 88046 Friedrichshafen (www.minibar-fn.de). Start time is 10am and finish is at 1pm. There are some delicious breakfast options on offer, including a full-English, as well as veggie selections, coffee included in the price. You might well be tempted to go for one of their delicious craft beers or gins to round things off….. Some parking spots are available outside, otherwise there’s the large harbour car park (Seeparkplatz) on the main road. There are no trains running between Lindau and Kressbronn at the moment, due to works on the line lasting until 20th October, however there are buses running to Kressbronn and then trains leaving there as normal towards Friedrichshafen. There’s a train from Kressbronn at 915am (to Friedrichshafen Stadt Bahnhof) and one at 9.49am from Kressbronn which will take you directly to Friedrichshafen Hafen Bahnhof (which is only a couple of minutes walk to the bar).

Finally, our last-Friday-of-the-month meeting will be at “Restaurant Zum Alten Rathaus”, Maximillianstrasse, Lindau (www.restaurant-zum-alten-rathaus-lindau.de) on Friday, 29th October at 7pm. I’m not sure if we’ll be upstairs or down, but the waiters should be able to help if you can’t find us. Hope to see you soon!
