Hello everyone!

For our meeting this coming Friday (24th) I have got a nice, eclectic, new venue, “37 Grad”, on Lindau harbour. Very handy for those of you coming by train, as it is literally around the corner from the main station entrance/exit, and if you’re coming by boat (for those of you from Bregenz or Friedrichshafen) then you’ll step off the ship and practically fall into the bar ;o). As the weather is not forecast to be particularly summery on Friday evening, I have taken the precaution of booking tables inside – if you’re coming to one of our get-togethers for the first time please ask the staff where we are. Tables booked from 8pm as always. Food is available – and it always looks absolutely delicious – so don’t worry if you can’t manage to eat before coming out…..you’ll be well catered for.

There is a special event coming up which I think I should tell you about: the 3rd Highland Games (it only happens every five years), on the meadow of the Salvatorianer Kloster in Hörbranz, just over the border in Austria. It is taking place on Saturday, 2nd July, from 11am onwards and is absolutely free of charge. Anyone can take part if they want (but tossing the caber is not obligatory), there is live music – bagpipes and brass bands – and I’ve also heard that there may be some whisky tasting going on ;o). It promises to be quite a spectacle: the finale (at 9.30pm) involves a group of over 150 bagpipers playing a selection of “Scottish music classics”. Not every day that you can experience all that in this little corner of the world.

There was an online article that I read on the BBC website a month or so ago, and I thought I would share it with you, it’s about whether it’s possible to get by with just 100 words of the English language – quite interesting: http://www.bbc.co.uk/go/em/fr/-/news/magazine-12894638

I hope to see lots of you on Friday. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have questions, ideas, information, etc………

Best wishes
Amanda
